Event Pianist
About me
There was always a piano in the house when I was growing up. When I was around 7 years old when I started piano lessons, then steadily progressed through the piano grades during the following years until he achieved grade 8 piano practical at the age of 16. During this time I also learnt to play the church organ.
Since then, I explored the areas of jazz, swing and pop, developing improvisation skills, as well as continuing to play classical music to maintain my technique.
During my 30s I began teaching piano on an occasional basis.
I played in a local function band for several years, playing in pubs and at wedding receptions, and I have accompanied different soloists, singing contemporary, swing and jazz standards at public venues and private parties.
I spent several years assisting in the running of an 80-strong community choir, accompanying them on the piano and creating original arrangements to popular songs, and teaching various vocal arrangements.
I have also been very involved in the running and organising contemporary church worship bands over many decades.
Drawing on my experience, I am able to provide a wide range of teaching, from classical to improvisation, short courses on theory, learning to read music, and contemporary chord structures.
